Electrical

Wiring up the Corvette powerplant to function in the body of a BMW really isn't as hard as one might think. My original plan was to utilize an electrical center built by Mike Collins of Nash Motorsports to mate an f-body wiring harness and computer to the existing BMW wires + gauges. Mike builds a really slick electrical center which makes the electrical portion of this project basically plug-and-play. Here's what this electrical center consists of: :

  • PCM relays, fan relays, starter relay, A/C relay
  • PCM fuses, fan circuit breakers
  • Connects directly to the stock f-body wiring harness through factory Packard connectors
  • 8 pin connector (male and female to attach to BMW wiring)
  • 2 pin connector for A/C compressor
  • 2 pair of 2 pin connectors for backup lights
  • 6 gauge lug for alternator power wire
  • 4 gauge lug for starter wire

The original plan also consisted of Separtech re-working a stock harness I'd purchased used from a member of LS1Tech.com along with reprogramming a PCM to the needs of this project.

After several setbacks buying these components off the used market, I ended up having Speartech make a complete stand-alone custom engine harness, and I bought a computer directly from them as well. Speartech's stand-alone harness is fully functional with it's own fuel pump relay, fuse block, data link connecter, and optional wires for electrical tach and speedo hookup. What is also nice is that I was able to have the Speartech harness made exactly to the lengths I would need for my project.

Initially I had Speartech take care of the tuning items listed below, however once we're up and running I will have a full dyno tune done by Howard Tanner of Redline Motorsports

  • Disabling the anti-theft (VATS).
  • Disabling EGR, A.I.R., evap system, post-cat oxygen sensors on OBD II systems and other emissions equipment
  • Lowered the cooling fan turn on temperature.
  • Raised rev limiter

The pictures on the right are of the custom harness made by Speartech, along with the PCM I also purchased from Speartech
